Music Training Center – Private Lesson Policies
Tuition Payment
Tuition is charged monthly based on the number of weeks in the month, along with a performances and materials fee covering the student’s seasonal recital performances and certain materials provided by teachers at no additional cost. Click here for current school year tuition.
To reserve a timeslot, tuition for the full month must be paid seven (7) days in advance for all weeks in the month regardless of how many lessons the student plans to attend. The monthly performances and materials fee is charged for months where there is at least one scheduled lesson or recital performance.
Tuition for the upcoming month is due by the final lesson of the current month. If not paid on time, the timeslot may be reassigned to a new student.
We recommend that you elect automatic monthly payment to prevent loss of your timeslot due to an inadvertent late payment.
Missed Lesson and Makeup Policy
Once you have reserved a month’s lessons, we pay your teacher for all lessons. This includes lessons you are not able to attend for any reason including planned vacations and holidays when the school is open.
Lessons missed or canceled by the student are not refunded, banked, credited, carried forward, or owed to the student in any manner regardless of reason or advance notice of the cancellation.
Makeup Lessons

-
To be eligible for rescheduling, a lesson must be cancelled online from your online student portal at least five minutes before the lesson start time. Your teacher is still paid for the cancelled lesson. You may schedule makeup lessons from your online student portal into other student’s cancelled lesson times subject to availability. Cancelled lessons and missed lessons have no monetary value, cannot be used in place of regular tuition for future lessons, and are not credited or refunded if they are not rescheduled.
-
You may schedule up to 4 makeup lessons every 30 days (48 makeups per year) using our online makeup scheduling system.
-
You may schedule makeup lessons with any teacher on our faculty and on any instrument taught at the school subject to availability (pre-K students may schedule only with their primary teacher).
-
Makeup lessons may not be scheduled beyond the date of your final paid lesson.
-
Makeup lessons may not be scheduled within 7 days of any lesson that was not paid due to a school holiday or teacher’s absence.
Lessons Cancelled by the School
Tuition for lessons cancelled by Music Training Center due to snow, instructor illness, or facility conflicts will be credited to your account and deducted from the next month’s invoice. However, if a substitute teacher has been scheduled at the same day and time of the original lesson, there is no tuition credit.
Online Lessons
In the event of a public health crisis, inclement weather, power outage, instructor’s inability to travel, or other situations that temporarily prevent in-school lessons, lessons may be held online through Zoom. There is no tuition credit in these situations.
School Holidays
Tuition is not charged for days the school is closed: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week, and December 24th through January 1st. Tuition is charged for all other days of the year.
Substitute Teachers
If your teacher is out sick or on vacation, another teacher from within our regular faculty may be scheduled to teach your lesson at the regularly scheduled time. Substitute lessons are billed the same as regular lessons. If you prefer to not attend the lesson, you may cancel your lesson in your online portal and receive a non-monetary makeup credit that you may use to schedule a makeup lessons in timeslots cancelled by other students (see Makeup Lessons above).
We strongly encourage you or your child attend lessons with our teachers who may be substituting for your regular teacher, as getting to know our other teachers will make it easier for you to schedule makeup lessons in the future.
Recital Policies
We provide four recital opportunities each year to our students and we encourage our students to participate in all four recitals. Two recitals (June and December) are formal in nature, with songs selected to certain criteria that ensure the opportunity for development of technique. Two recitals (August and January) are informal in nature, in which students may perform any song of their choosing subject only to having appropriate lyrics. Participation in recitals optional, however there is no adjustment of tuition for recitals in which a student does not participate.
Stopping Lessons
You may stop lessons at the end of any calendar month. However, if a student is participating in a recital, lessons must continue until the recital date.
If you have already paid the month’s tuition, you may stop lessons by providing 14 days advance notice. Tuition for lessons more than 14 days from your notice date is credited to your account for future use, but is not refunded.
Returning to Lessons
After discontinuation of recurring lessons, a student who wishes to resume lessons within an 8-week period may reserve a timeslot within 3 days of restarting lessons. For example, if recurring lessons were discontinued on March 31, and the student wishes to resume lessons on April 15, the student may contact the school on or after April 12 to schedule lessons into any available timeslot.
Students returning to lessons after more than 8 weeks from discontinuation may contact the school within 6 days of the planned start date to schedule lessons into any available timeslot.
