Jimmy SwartzJimmy Swartz is a graduate of The University of the Arts with a Bachelors of Music in Instrumental Performance, concentrating in drum set and percussion studies. He studied under Erik Johnson at The University of the Arts and James Armstrong at Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
Jimmy began percussion lessons and performing music in the fourth grade, and during high school studied drums at the Music Training Center in Conshohocken. He became an active musician in high school, performing in concert band, competitive jazz band, pit orchestra, and choral ensemble. Jimmy was awarded the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and an award from the Choral Music Department upon graduation.
While attending University of the Arts, Jimmy continued to perform in a wide variety of musical ensembles, including Percussion Ensemble, Drum Set Ensemble, Video Game Ensemble, NYC Standards ensemble, and he was a member of the Pit Orchestra for several university productions. Jimmy performed with the award-winning “Z” Big Band, which was recognized as the nation’s top college large jazz ensemble in the 2016 DownBeat magazine Student Music Awards. He was awarded the School of Music Jazz Award upon graduation.
Since graduating from University of the Arts, Jimmy has performed with several touring cover bands and weddings bands throughout the northeast, represented by agencies including Midnight Sun and Anderson Entertainment Management. He is currently a member of the Weezer tribute band “Weezadelphia.” He has taught Rock Band Camps at Music Training Center since 2008. He enjoys preparing his students for the demands of the modern musical world by incorporating a combination of traditional and contemporary methods. Jimmy looks forward to sharing his passion and enthusiasm for music with his students while helping them achieve  their musical goals.
